STAYING WITH US
What We Do
Cinco Charities, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing temporary housing for patients who have traveled to the Houston area and are receiving treatment in Katy/ West Houston area medical facilities for a serious illness. Many needing housing assistance are outpatients receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatments which are not offered in their home towns. Cinco Charities, Inc. has been providing housing since 2008 for patients in local hotels, extended stays and a 3 bedroom home loaned to the charity. With the construction of the West Houston Medical Center, which includes Texas Children’s Hospital, Methodist Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Katy expanding their services in Katy, the need for temporary housing has exploded. In December 2013, the newly constructed Ballard House opened its doors to guests. This was made possible through the generosity of The Ballard Foundation started by Erin and Monty Ballard to assist Cinco Charities, Inc. in extending their outreach. The new facility expanded the capacity to assist more families in need of housing and continue the legacy of providing a safe haven and comfort to guests coming from other countries, many states across the US and from the four corners of Texas. Fun Facts: The first 6 months of operation The Ballard House guests have travelled from 26 different states, 3 countries, and 47 cities and rural towns spread out all over Texas. The Ballard House has provided a “home away from home” for 555 patients, their caregivers and other family members for 3,350 nights.
How We Do It
We extend our reach and impact by leveraging our cumulative years of experience and strong relationships within the community as well as the medical and support personnel of current and future medical service providers. We continually work to improve and expand our core programs, while also developing plans to meet the future needs of the constantly changing medical community. We don’t do it alone. We rely on our Friends of Cinco Charities, Inc. and The Ballard House as well as our friends within the Healthcare Hospitality Network to identify needs and best practices and carry out our mission on the ground. We rely on our strong relationships with the medical community to provide access to health care. We rely on strategic alliances with organizations that have the knowledge and infrastructure to extend our reach. We rely on you – our donors, volunteers, staff and friends. Thank you for your continued loyalty and support!
