Ryan Phelps Completes Eagle Scout Project for Ballard House

Ryan Phelps, a junior at Cinco Ranch High School delivered his completed Eagle Scout project to the Ballard House October 16th.  Ryan has been a scout since the sixth grade and currently enjoys playing on the Cinco Ranch Varsity Golf Team. His parents, Eddie and Michelle, as well as his sister Emily showed up to offer their support for Ryan and be a part of placing his project in its new location at The Ballard House.

This was a big accomplishment as Ryan had been working on the project for several months. The requirements included meetings with the recipient, plans on how to finance, who would  be involved in executing the project and a commitment to complete it in a manner that displayed leadership. Ryan’s project was to design and construct   two five foot cedar benches enhanced with a prominent B—for Ballard House –carved in the back centers. He had trouble finding someone to carve the B the way he envisioned it should look, so his Dad Eddie and he tackled a new skill, wood carving. The result is outstanding!

When ask why he chose the Ballard House and this particular project, Ryan said, “I wanted to do something that would have a long lasting effect and something that people would use every day.” The two cedar benches fit perfectly under the gazebo that overlooks the pond and gardens in the back yard.

Thank you Ryan for choosing The Ballard House to be the proud recipients of your Eagle Scout project. If your benches could talk, they would be able to tell  “the life stories” of people from around the world who will  sit on them conversing in many different languages and dialects– sharing fun memories, laughing and crying together as they make life changing decisions,  just resting and enjoying the promise of another day.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       photo 4 (16) photo 5 (4) photo 2 (33)
